There are many webmasters out there who would like to learn Perl but have probably picked up some of the more tech-only type Perl books (the ones with the Llama on the front). No Webmaster interested in programming in Perl or who runs Perl script should be without this book. This is indispensible for your library. Plus it is reasonably priced, only 272 pages (that includes the index), is a best-selling book on Perl and CGI, and is written in layman terms. You simply figure out what you want to do, goto the appropriate page and Ms. Castro shows you **visually** what code to use and what it means.
From what I understand, Mr. Atkinson wrote the very first book on PHP. This book is a very good reference for PHP. It provides examples of php code functions. I wore out the first edition of this book. The second edition I also own and use.
This bestselling book is a great reference book for HTML and even provides some info on common JavaScript code. I love these Visual Start books for their completeness, yet simplicity and they also make wonderful quick reference books. Comes with a new debugger chapter, expanded coverage on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), table layout techniques and more!
In the tech community the O'reilly books are known for being "the" books to buy for reference and how-to. The problem is I think they are too complicated for most webmasters to find every day useful. However, this book makes for excellent reference material for mySQL and msql and is probably one of the few O'reilly books I'd recommend to webmasters. Add this one to your library.

This book is on my wish list and I'll be picking it up shortly. The reviews at Amazon from those who have purchased the book are very good overall and the sample chapters read pretty well. I'd put this one on your list as well to buy. Palm Programming for Dummies
** I honestly haven't been able to do much with this book yet except install some of the software on the included CD Rom. I bought this one along with the Creating Web Pages for Dummies book about 8 months or so ago (Mar 2001) so that I could see what these "for Dummies" books were all about. There are some decent software (that otherwise you'd need to hunt down with your search engine) and coding examples. Check it out. Palm Programming * This book is recommended only for experienced C/C++ programmers wanting to get their hands on Palm OS, but it is not recommended for beginners (nor very useful for most webmasters) or those new to programming.
